The Heart of Life by John Mayer
I’ve recently become a John Mayer fan. I know he’s been around for a while, but I’m just weird like that. If an artist doesn’t catch my interest initially then I tend to tune them out. What turned me on to him you ask? Hearbreak Warfare.
People are constantly changing. The experiences and events that occur in ones life can influence the music they listen to. In my case, I guess it’s a little bit of growing up and finding myself. I’ve always been a fan of music. But it seems my interest in music has evolved. See, everyone has a broad interest in music. A liking if you will. But the interest itself can be very specific. I’m more interesting in the composition of music and how it’s lyrically delivered. It has to be smart. Otherwise it’s just noise.
I remember when I first heard John Mayers debut album Room For Squares. I was working at Tower Records off Broadway in Sac. (Best Tower btw) It was too soft…instrumental…coffee shop-like for me. At that time I was always on the go. Always out…living a much faster life. Today, I’ve taken a break from the driver seat and kinda took a seat in the back. Observing all I can out of the side windows. My life is moving at a slower pace. I find myself spending quite evenings at home more often. All of which, I don’t really mind at all. I guess this I can call this segment of my life stepping into adult hood. I’ve never felt so grown up.
